Nestled in the heart of La Jolla, La Valencia Hotel’s iconic Spanish-style architecture stands tall, looking over the cove. The bustle of the quaint city that attracts tourists worldwide can be heard as you walk by while seagulls call overhead. Passing through the white gates that surround the uniquely pink building, you could feel the excitement: it was Jacqui and Rick’s wedding day!

Getting Ready & First Looks at La Valencia Hotel

Inside the bridal suite, Jacqui spent her morning alongside her mom and sisters. Though she had a whole crew of beautiful friends ready to support her throughout her day as bridesmaids, it was important to her that she spend those first moments with her family. The four of them were pampered, getting their hair and makeup done and enjoying each others’ company, wearing matching silk pajamas.

Once in her lace gown, Jacqui shared a moment in her dress with her father. Seeing his little girl for the first time that morning, he told her how beautiful she was before sharing a warm embrace. Arm around his daughter, Jacqui’s friends made their way into the hotel and stopped to cover their eyes before their first look. After a countdown, the girls got to see their best friend and squealed at how gorgeous she was. They made their way down the stairs, running to hug the bride.

Over in the groom’s suite with a balcony that overlooked the ocean, Rick was getting ready with all his friends and siblings. The room was relaxed but lively as they got on their jackets and cheered to his soon-to-be marriage. His brothers helped straighten his bowtie before heading to the garden for the first look.

Turned away from her, Rick could hear his bride as she made her way towards him. Jacqui’s sisters and maids of honor, Alex and Kristy, helped lay her train out on the grass before she tapped Rick on the shoulder. He turned around, completely in awe of his bride. “I can’t wait to marry you!”

The Ceremony at The Immaculata Catholic Church

Sitting atop the hill, The Immaculata Catholic Church hosted the pair’s ceremony. Arm wrapped in her father’s, Jacqui made her way down the aisle to meet Rick as her cathedral-length veil kissed the floor behind her. The stained glass windows high on the ceiling reflected colors throughout the room like watercolor paints. Their Mass, steeped in rich tradition from generations before them, was filled with readings and songs that brought Christ front and center of their marriage. Following their first kiss, you could catch friends and family with smiles from ear to ear as they exited the church. There could not have been more excitement!

Wedding Reception in the Ballroom

Back at La Valencia, the newlyweds’ guests enjoyed cocktail hour as the sun dropped near the water. J&R made their way down to the beach on the hotel’s famous pink golf cart to catch sunset’s golden glow with us for portraits. The wind delicately whisked Jacqui’s veil on the cliffs and they looked like a romantic movie scene.

Candlelight, whimsical florals, and freshly poured wine met guests as they found their seats in the ballroom to start the reception. Entering all together, the bridal party brought the fun, cheering as they walked, our couple not far behind them. The entire room exploded with joy as they watched the special dances, listened to toasts, and clinked champagne glasses. And when it came time to head onto the dance floor, the guests did not disappoint. Dancing the night away, The Downings truly had a night to remember!

Being around your friends and families and seeing who you’ve surrounded yourselves with, your love story feels like two puzzle pieces perfectly fitting together. It was always meant to be and your support system is beautiful! We feel so lucky to have gotten to be a part of this chapter of your lives and are grateful to know you!
