Their Meet-Cute:
Jiaqi and Eric’s love story began during their college years. Jiaqi was at Yale, where she was studying alongside Eric’s sister, Jen, while he was two hours away at West Point. Their paths first crossed when Eric was visiting, and those initial meetings quickly blossomed into something much more than casual encounters.
It wasn’t long before the connection between Jiaqi and Eric became undeniable. Their first official date took place at Six Flags in New Jersey one summer, where they laughed, rode roller coasters, and spent the day enjoying each other’s company. Little did they know, that day would mark the beginning of an eight-year journey filled with shared adventures, dreams, and growing love.
Their relationship started long-distance, but they never let it stand in their way. They made it work, visiting each other when they could and supporting each other through all the challenges that came their way. Eventually, they moved to New York for grad school, bringing them closer together, and the couple transitioned into a new chapter of their relationship. Now, settled in Philadelphia, they continue to build their life together, sharing everything from quiet nights at home to thrilling travels across the globe, such as Japan, London, China, and Vietnam.
The Proposal: A Perfect Setup in Queenstown, New Zealand
After many years together, Eric knew he wanted to make his proposal to Jiaqi unforgettable. In January 2024, they embarked on an incredible trip with their closest friends to Australia and New Zealand—a vacation that would soon turn into something far more meaningful.
While in Queenstown, the group had planned a special photo session, where a photographer would take pictures of all the couples among the gorgeous New Zealand landscape. However, this wasn’t just any photo op—it was the perfect setup for the proposal. Jiaqi knew an engagement was on the way relatively soon, as the two had been looking at rings together, and had an inkling that this trip might be the time, but didn’t expect it to be during the shoot.
At the start of the session, their friends suggested that Jiaqi and Eric go first. It was time! Eric turned to Jiaqi, dropping to one knee, and held out the ring. Surprised and so excited, she said “yes” in a heartbeat. It was a magical moment—a culmination of eight years of love, memories, and countless adventures, all leading to this perfect proposal.
Their Golden Coronado Beach Engagement Session:
When Jiaqi and Eric arrived for their engagement session, the sun was already beginning to cast its golden glow over Coronado. The day was cloudless, the sky a perfect blue—the perfect backdrop to capture their love. As they started their session, the mood was calm and joyful, but anyone could see how effortlessly they moved together.
We began by strolling through the charming streets of Coronado, these two walking hand-in-hand. They were relaxed, taking in the moment, and it was clear they were so comfortable in each other’s presence. As we moved to the sand dunes, which offered a more playful setting, the two couldn’t help but let loose, with Eric pulling Jiaqi close for a laugh, their easy chemistry bubbling to the surface. Our final stop for their session was the beach, where the waves kissed the shore and the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting the most magical golden light across the water. Of course, no moment with Jiaqi and Eric would be complete without a little extra love, from a very special guest: Eric’s sister, Jen, who had been with them since the very beginning, and Jen’s dog, Brutus, a playful and adorable pup.
To Jiaqi & Eric:
Jiaqi & Eric, your love is the perfect mix of quiet tenderness and lively fun, rooted in the deep friendship and genuine bond you share. It’s easy to capture a duo that is so clearly made for one another, and I had such a blast hanging with the two of you! Hayes and I cannot be more excited to be a part of your big day, which will be here before we know it! We can’t wait!
