While hanging out with a friend, Alex caught a glimpse of a snapchat her friend had received which pictured a guy she thought was super cute. Her friend told her he had a girlfriend, and the conversation ended there, neither not thinking much of it. After some time passed however, she got a text from her friend when on a trip in Las Vegas telling her that guy she thought was cute was now single, and he wanted to meet her. Excited, she decided love was worth a risk, and she got a flight home to Pittsburgh to meet the guy in the Snapchat picture, Shane.
Once she got back, they went on a date to the Pig Iron, and instantly connected. Shane was so impressed by her love of food and appetite, and they ate appetizers and talked. Not a second was awkward, and they both knew this was something special.
Two weeks later, he visited her in Columbus, and they started driving back and forth to see each other. Shane took her bowling with his family, and ended the night by asking her to be his girlfriend back at his apartment. In September, he moved to Columbus to be closer to his girl, and by July of 2019, they moved in together and got their red golden retriever, Marvel.
The Proposal Plan
On a family trip to Hilton Head in August, Shane asked Alex’s parents for her hand in marriage at Coligny Beach, and she had no idea. Since a family friend is a wholesaler, Shane bought the ring making sure to get exactly the style she wanted, but when Covid-19 struck, he wasn’t able to get the ring for five months.
The weekend before he proposed, her parents came to visit and brought the ring for Shane. Hiding it under the dresser in their closet, Shane made a plan: he would ask Alex in Charolette on his friend’s bachelor party trip. They went down early and he hid the ring under the hard surface in his bag.
How He Asked
After telling their friends the plan to do it on the beach, her friend told Alex to dress up for photos together by the water. Slightly suspicious, Alex decided to brush it off, not wanting to get her hopes up. They went to grab crab legs for dinner the day after they arrived. But the whole dinner, Shane was nervous because it was raining! Luckily, the rain stopped, and they headed for pictures.
Her friend distracted her while he got the ring and put it in his belt, and once the photos started, he got down on one knee. All she kept saying was, “NO! No way! No no no!!” in complete disbelief, which made for such a cute but funny video. And once she said yes, they headed back to the Airbnb, which they had sneakily decorated. Enjoying champagne, they soaked in the moment and called everyone close to them to share the news. But for Alex, she still can’t believe she gets to marry the man of her dreams!
The Engagement Session
These two are the sweetest pair you could meet, so full of life and laughter. They truly enjoy each others’ company, and their sweet pup is just the perfect edition to their little family. Their love story is one of such intentional pursuit, and it is one of my favorite stories I’ve heard. A + S, I had such a blast with you two for your engagement session. Getting to meet you both and play with Marvel was an honor, and I loved being around you. I absolutely cannot wait for your wedding and to watch you both become man and wife.
Here’s to the future Mr. & Mrs. Gallagher! Your love story is beautiful, and you are going to rock marriage! Congratulations!!
