Two toddlers at a family session means double the energy — and double the fun. When we embrace the messy and imperfect, the magic always follows. Some of my favorite sessions are the ones where the littles aren’t focused on the camera at all, but fully immersed in play.

The Yuans’ Felicita County Park Family Session

Felicita Park is especially meaningful to the Yuan family. Before becoming parents, Angela and Wayne were wedding photographers themselves, and this was one of their go-to locations for engagement sessions. The tall oaks and dreamy light made it an easy favorite then, and they’re just as beautiful now. Getting to photograph their family in that same spot felt like a full-circle moment — this time with their two kiddos, Elliot and Lucy, exploring every corner of the fall scenery.

The crisp evening was the perfect temperature, exactly what you hope for in a California autumn. Warm shades of orange and yellow covered the ground, and the sunset glowed through the branches and bushes that fill the park. Rocks became climbing adventures, and the soft grass made the perfect spot for a play–tea party setup. I loved that they brought toys the kids already enjoy at home — familiar things that bring real joy. It made for the best candids and such an honest way to capture this season of life.
