Some wedding days feel effortlessly timeless from beginning to end, and Sofia and Parker’s celebration at La Valencia Hotel was exactly that. Set against the stunning backdrop of La Jolla’s coastline, every part of their day unfolded at the iconic pink hotel, blending classic elegance, meaningful Jewish traditions, and joyful moments with the people they love most.
A Relaxed Morning at La Valencia
The day began in one of La Valencia’s beautiful suites as Sofia and her bridesmaids enjoyed a slow, relaxed morning together. While we photographed her carefully chosen details, Sofia put the finishing touches on hair and makeup, surrounded by her favorite people.
She wore a stunning silk pajama set complete with feather trim on the sleeves and pant legs, while her mom, Parker’s mom, aunt, and bridesmaids coordinated in matching peach pajama sets. The atmosphere was calm and joyful as everyone sipped champagne, chatted, and soaked in the significance of the day ahead.
One of the sweetest moments of the morning came when Sofia opened a gift from Parker: a beautiful diamond statement ring.
When it was finally time to get dressed, her mom helped her into her satin A-line gown featuring a sophisticated drop waist silhouette. Her maids of honor carefully added her pearl veil, matching sleeves, and shoes, which carried a heartfelt message from a close friend who had recently given birth and was unable to attend the wedding. Before heading downstairs, Sofia shared a quiet moment with her sister, who couldn’t hold back tears seeing her little sister transformed into a bride.
Meanwhile, Parker spent the morning with his groomsmen in another suite at the hotel. His details reflected the same thoughtful touches woven throughout the day. He slipped on black velvet loafers from To Boot New York and buttoned a tuxedo jacket embroidered with their wedding date and a hidden note that read, “P.S. I love you.”
After fastening his cufflinks and watch, Parker’s father helped him tie his bow tie. He then opened Sofia’s gift—a gold chain—which his dad proudly helped him fasten. Once dressed, the guys headed downstairs to the bar to enjoy a few drinks together before the festivities began.
Their First Look Overlooking La Jolla
For their first look, we chose one of La Valencia’s most iconic locations: the balcony overlooking the hotel gardens, pool, and downtown La Jolla.
Parker waited patiently as Sofia made her way down the staircase, her gown cascading behind her. When she reached him, she gently tapped him on the shoulder. The smile that spread across his face when he turned around said everything. He immediately began complimenting his bride, admiring every detail before giving her a twirl and pulling her into a hug.
After sharing a few quiet moments together, we explored the property for portraits. The bright Southern California sunshine made every color around them come alive, creating the perfect backdrop for photographs throughout the hotel.
Family and wedding party portraits followed, something that was especially important to Sofia and Parker. They wanted to make sure they documented every important relationship and every loved one who had gathered to celebrate with them. Sofia’s bridesmaids carried classic calla lilies, adding another timeless touch to the day.
A Meaningful Jewish Ceremony
Their ceremony took place in La Valencia’s garden overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
A beautiful chuppah draped in flowing white fabric stood at the altar, softening the afternoon light while creating graceful movement in the ocean breeze.
Before Sofia walked down the aisle, guests listened to a prerecorded message she had prepared for Parker, reflecting on the journey that brought them to this moment. Then came one of the most emotional parts of the day.
Arm in arm with her father, Sofia walked down the aisle to a voicemail recording from her late grandfather. There was hardly a dry eye among the guests. As her father gave her away, her mother quietly blew a kiss toward the sky in remembrance.
The ceremony beautifully incorporated Jewish traditions, beginning with the couple circling one another seven times beneath the chuppah. Parker’s cousin officiated the ceremony, sharing stories and reflections before the couple exchanged heartfelt vows.
Following their first kiss as husband and wife, Parker broke the glass, and together they jumped with excitement as cheers of “Mazel Tov!” filled the garden.
Cocktails, Celebration, and Coastal Elegance
After a few photographs with friends, Sofia and Parker joined cocktail hour to celebrate alongside their guests and officially sign their marriage license.
Guests mingled on the hotel’s front patio facing La Jolla’s busiest street while enjoying an incredible spread of hors d’oeuvres, including fresh seafood, caviar bites, tacos, and lamb. Laughter filled the courtyard as everyone toasted to the newlyweds and enjoyed the beautiful Southern California evening.
An Unforgettable Reception at La Valencia
As guests entered the reception space, they were welcomed by glowing candlelight, creative floral installations, and personalized shell place cards displaying each guest’s name. Gold Chiavari chairs completed the elegant coastal aesthetic.
A live painter put the finishing touches on a one-of-a-kind piece that guests would later help complete by adding their fingerprints to a painted tree.
The celebration officially kicked off with the couple’s grand entrance, immediately followed by the Hora. Family and friends lifted Sofia and Parker into the air as the traditional music blended seamlessly into a modern version, creating an unforgettable energy that had the entire room laughing and dancing.
Later, the newlyweds shared a choreographed first dance to “You” by Dan + Shay. Complete with twirls, dips, lifts, and plenty of smiles. It was clear they had spent time preparing a dance that reflected their personalities and relationship.
Parker welcomed everyone to dinner with a heartfelt toast before guests enjoyed the evening’s meal and meaningful speeches.
Golden Hour on La Jolla’s Cliffs
As the sun began to set, we stole Sofia and Parker away for one final portrait session.
The two hopped aboard La Valencia’s iconic pink golf cart and made their way down to the cliffs overlooking the beach. The golden light created the perfect atmosphere for a completely different set of portraits than we had captured earlier in the day.
While their first-look portraits focused on elegance and anticipation, these images were intentionally romantic, playful, candid, and adventurous. We love breaking portraits into multiple sections throughout a wedding day, allowing couples to experience different moments and creating a gallery that feels authentic to every stage of the celebration.
Before heading back to the party, they shared a kiss and cheer aboard the golf cart as the sun dipped lower over the Pacific.
Dancing the Night Away
Back inside, guests enjoyed toasts, cake cutting, and parent dances before the dance floor officially opened.
Not long after, Sofia made a stunning outfit change into a silver fringe party dress paired with sparkling Stuart Weitzman crystal heels.
The celebration continued late into the evening as a live saxophonist joined the DJ on the dance floor, creating an unforgettable party atmosphere. One of the most lively moments of the night was when My Sherona by The Knack played, and Sofia’s aunt, the Sherona who inspired the 1979 hit, danced in the middle. Friends and family packed the dance floor, and Sofia and Parker spent the rest of the night exactly as they had spent the entire day: surrounded by the people they love most and celebrating the beginning of their marriage.
Their wedding at La Valencia Hotel was the perfect blend of timeless elegance, meaningful tradition, coastal beauty, and pure joy—a day that felt every bit as special as the love story that brought them there.
